WELCOME BACK! I hope each of you has had a great summer. I am looking forward to seeing the returning students and am eager to meet the new ones. There are eleven dormitories on the ASD campus, serving pre-school through twelfth grade. Grace Hall and the Jemison House are our independent living dorms and letters have gone out to notify selected students of these highly coveted slots. Also, Taylor Hall has been renovated this spring and summer. This dorm for younger boys has new paint, blinds, flooring, and furniture – it looks great!

We are excited in Career Tech about the new school year. Teachers have attended professional development workshops, conferences, seminars, and classes this summer and are refreshed and ready to go. We are eager to get started with the new course, Career Preparedness, for all Ninth graders and using Work Keys for job skills assessments; assessing our students for the ability to communicate, problem solve, teamwork, and personal skills. We will also be using Kuder Assessments to help with career exploration and career planning.

Dear Parents and Students:
It’s time again to get ready for school at the Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD). We are so proud of each student here at ASD. That, of course means you are the best and most dedicated of parents anywhere. Last school year was great with many student accomplishments. I am confident that the 2013 – 2014 school year will see students achieving even more.
