Wow! What a wonderful day Friday, November 8, 2013 was at the Alabama School for the Deaf. Twelve girls competed for the title of Miss ASD 2013. They all were very beautiful and did an outstanding job with their talent and formal wear portions of the competition. We had such a variety of presentations: step and belly dancing; drama presentations about staying yourself, education comes first, bullying, memorial to the World Trade Center, and doing your chores; comedy skits about "washing that man right out of your hair" and "first horse ride"; and songs signed in ASL.

The delegates (Joshua Edwards and Cody Maddox) and observers (Kelly Ciganek and Marshe Brownlee) had an enriching experience at the Jr. NAD National Conference at MSSD and Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.

Tis the Season in our ASD dorms! It seems as if there is one big holiday after another from Halloween to Christmas. Please take time to look at this week’s photos on the cafeteria hallway bulletin board. Taylor Hall is so excited about their renovated dorm, they are already planning their Christmas “theme”. Thornton Hall will host their annual Thanksgiving dinner on November 20th. Dorm staff prepare home-made dishes and it is truly a highlight of the Season. Graves Hall West enjoyed the delivery of their “dress-up trunk” this week (photo below).
